Tuning Inward

How’s it going so far? Have you been practicing your kapalabhati and the Flow Mindful warm-up sequence? Are you starting to notice changes in your body?

Today we’re going to do something a little different. We’re going to turn our focus inward to notice what is going on inside our bodies. Often we are so busy running from one activity to the next, that we don’t have a chance to be with ourselves.

What do I mean by that? Well, I mean to sit down, and listen to what is going on inside your body. For example, if you have been super busy and haven’t seen a friend in a long time when you finally meet what is the first thing you do when you see that person?

You ask them “how are you?” and then you listen to what has been going on in their life lately. The ups, the downs, the wins, the challenges. Often just the act of you listening to what your friend has to say will elevate their mood.

In this exercise, I want you to “listen” to what’s been going on in your body. If you’ve been skiing, chopping wood, doing lots of cross-fit, or perhaps you’ve been sitting at your desk, or you’ve been stressed, these will all have different physiological responses in your body.

I’d like you to sit, and give your body a chance to let you know how it is responding to the environment, and/or circumstance of your current life phase.

After the meditation, I want you to sit down with your notes app on your electronic device or a pen and journal and answer the following questions:

  1. What did I feel sensation-wise in my body during the meditation?
  2. Were there parts of my body that were more present/talkative than others?
  3. How does my body feel now? If there was pain/discomfort during the meditation is it still there?
