GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® Methods

The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is a unique, holistic approach to movement. Some of the benefits of a regular Gyrotonic practice include a healthier, more supple spine, increased range of motion, greater joint stability, improved agility and athletic performance, and a deep internal strength. Rebecca offers personalized sessions that are adapted to fit the needs of all ages, and abilities, from elderly patients recovering from injury, to highly skilled professional dancers, actors & athletes. Gyrotonic exercises are performed on custom-designed Gyrotonic equipment, whereas Gyrokinesis exercises are performed on a mat and chair. Both Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis exercise sequences are composed of spiraling, circular movements, which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions with corresponding breathing patterns.

GYROTONIC® Special Equipment

Pulley Tower

The GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower Combination Unit is the result of over thirty years of research and development, and is the most widely used piece of Gyrotonic Equipment. The  pulley tower provides smooth, even support and resistance via a unique, weighted pulley system. The adjustable bench and rotating handle unit can be customized to fit the individual proportions, and movement capacities of each user. The design of the equipment supports the full, and natural range of motion of the joints, allowing for three-dimensional, functional movement, and eliminating the sharp starts and stops where most injury occurs.

The Archway

The Archway is considered by many to be the most physically demanding piece of specialized equipment. The vertical, tiered ladder design of the Archway accommodates advanced strength and stability sequences by allowing users to perform exercises in various relationships to gravity- vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and inverted. The included propeller accessory, and adjustable arms provide standing, and rotation exercises for people of various abilities- beginners to advanced.  The Archway is especially popular with dancers, and other athletes.

Yoga

Rebecca has been practicing yoga since 2001/2002 and became a teacher in 2007/2008 under the tutelage of Iyengar/Ashtanga Teacher Hart Lazer in Montreal, Canada. She went on to study with many gurus across the globe from Berlin, to Prague, London, New York & LA. She relies heavily on the work of BKS Iyengar for alignment and looks to the Ashtanga system for sequencing and flow. In combination with her choreography and dance background she enjoys weaving together unique sequences that will leave your body feeling stretched, and connected, relaxed yet energized. With her private clients Rebecca enjoys working on whatever the individuals needs from restorative yoga to a balanced flow practice, from inversions to standing postures or backbends. Rebecca will lay the foundation for a solid yoga practice you can keep with you for years to come, providing you with alignment information to maintain your body injury free, and breathing exercises to make you strong.

Hooping

Hooping was Rebecca’s first passion. She fell absolutely in love with the feeling of dancing with a hoop in 2003 and decided to pursue her contemporary dance studies with that very hoop around her waist. She began teaching hoop classes and went on to open a hoop school in Montreal, and then later launched a hoop festival in Berlin, Germany & Prague. Now based in LA, Rebecca teaches hooping as a fitness modality. The breadth of her teaching practice in combination with her performance experience yields and unforgettable hoop experience, and you’re sure to shed a few pounds while having a giggle or two. Whether you’ve never hooped in your life and you can’t keep the hoop up around your waist yet, or you are a pro hula hooper and you want to refine your 6-hoop-split, Rebecca will help you embody the hoop, and get connected while doing it.
